Although the question is quite general in nature, and the answers may vary, I will tell you my personal feelings regarding what it’s like to be Chinese.
In general, we are family oriented people. We start dating and relationship with a long-term plan. Casual dating is not part of traditional Chinese culture. We believe in social values and care a lot about our relationships. We may take things slowly as we want to ensure stability in a long term. We certainly need more time to trust someone.
We love our motherland. Chinese people have a deep sense of love and patriotism for their motherland. I don’t have words to describe my love for my beloved motherland.
We don’t keep comparing China with other countries and cultures. We respect and appreciate different cultures, and expect reciprocity.

We are aware that citizens from many western countries love to find problems in China. In my opinion, this is partly because they have never been to China. Just spend a few days in Shanghai and you will see the kind of growth and development is happening in China.
Mandarin Chinese (普通话) is our mother tongue. With just one language, people from different parts of China can effectively communicate with each other.
We are friendly, nonviolent, and peace loving people.
We like making new friends and hanging out in groups.
We love to laugh.
We love to share.
China is a very safe country for both the natives and expats. We have zero tolerance for crime and criminals. In particular, for the drug offences, the penalties are severe.
The cost of living is about RMB 5,000 per person per month in Shanghai/Beijing. More affordable in the smaller cities.
We have love travelling. China has one of the best modes of public transportation infrastructure, such as the high-speed trains.
There are plenty of hospitals in China. You can meet a specialist doctor for RMB 10. Healthcare couldn’t be more affordable.
So, what is it like to be Chinese?
It’s amazing to be Chinese. We love our cultural heritage. We are proud to be Chinese.
